Summer Sketching Latest

We’re almost half way through our Summer Sketching Programme already and we’ve had some great days out.  We’ve been to Seaton Sluice and Warkworth (with a bonus of tea and pastries in group member, Linda’s, garden). We had glorious sunshine for our time at Wallington Hall, with so many options for sketching, we were spoiled for choice.  If you haven’t managed to get to a sketching event yet, they’re very informal and very sociable. We meet at 10.30 on Tuesday mornings.  Coming up on Tuesday 13th we are at Amble (meet near the harbour pods), Tuesday 20th Morpeth Leisure Centre (meet at the entrance) and finally, Belsay Castle on Tuesday 27th (meet at the entrance).

Sketching the Sketcher

The following words – and the above watercolour by Claire  - sum up our time at Wallington.

Claire says, “A gorgeous morning to be painting outside at Wallington Hall with Morpeth Art Group in the sunshine. The paint was drying really fast which was a bonus to help get some darker layers on for those foliage shadows.

We were something of a visitor attraction in the walled garden but I think I get so in the painting zone I don’t mind people watching, especially if it encourages them to think about having a go. Landscapes are less my thing so it was fun to put a figure in it and see how much better my looking skills have got over my last few weeks at summer school.”

‘Jacqui en plain air’ watercolour sketch. A4.
